The Legality Of The Cross
The Legality Of The Cross

Perfect love demands perfect justice. Perfect justice in turn declares perfect judgment and performs the execution of the judgment declared. The briefings of the legal ramifications of what occurred at the execution of Jesus, would fill all the libraries in the world many times over. Without the crucifixion of Jesus, none of what has been enjoyed and made available for believers to enjoy would have been unlocked. Rather, one would not be able to partake and demand of the legal rights without the work that occurred at the cross. And the briefing would begin at the legal exchange with Abram.
Many countries have ruling documents that are their “supreme law”. This legal document becomes then the standard, the essence, that the country's laws and decrees are measured up against. The cross and what occurred afterwards, is what gives the legal foundation for the Kingdom.
Follow me for a few moments.
For many years now, people have segregated the bible story into 2 different camps. Many in turn have taken this segregation as a reason to make the “old” part of the bible somehow less important or “no longer relevant”. Jesus did not come to abolish the covenant rather He came to complete it. But many do not know what the basic premises of “it” was/is anymore. Hence the struggle and arguing of “old” versus “new”. By forgetting what was, the reality of what is, is unable to be seen.
You see the Abrahamic covenant was the legal vehicle God used to fulfill justice AND mercy unto the earth. The covenant made between God and Abraham allowed God to restore His creation to its original intent. That is, His creation could once again walk and talk with Him in the cool of the day, just as Adam and Eve did at the beginning.
First let's set the premise why a covenant was even needed.
One of the descriptions of God is that He is Love. When everything else ends, Love will remain. It is this same attribute of God that then demands perfect justice. And for that to be satisfied, transgressions, or sin, must be addressed. Here is where the technical legality begins. Adam and Eve sinned. But they had been given Dominion of earth (creation). When they believed the deception of Satan, they relinquished that dominion over to their deceiver. Their immediate consequences were dealt with and they were exiled from the garden. Now sin still had not been dealt with, rather a substitute or “parley” was introduced by God, to allow them not to face the full wrath of God, for God is not able to coexist with Sin. This substitute came in the form of the spilling of blood, a sacrifice of an animal and they were covered in its skin. However, this was only a temporary allotment to stay the punishment that Justice demanded. But God had given dominion /rulership of Earth/creation to man. So now you have a quandary.
Man, that is now imperfect, and sinful, had no recourse to atone, present a permanent sacrifice for the transgression, he is no longer qualified to present a case before the court of heaven, at best he can stay the judgment but eventually time would run out and death would be demanded for sin. Creation would no longer be able to be reconciled back to God through man. God, by His own word, gave dominion of creation over to man to rule earth. So what does God do? He made a covenant with a man called Abram.
In its most simple form, a covenant is an agreement between 2 parties. Whatever one party of the legal agreement did, the other is obligated by the legality of the agreement entered, to match and fulfill it. The friends and enemies of the one party become the friends and enemies of the other party. Whatever the one did for the other, the corresponding partner is legally bound to reciprocate back. Abram, now Abraham, by offering up his only and first born son to sacrifice, then put God (the second legal party of the agreement) into legal obligation to also offer up HIS ONLY First born son to sacrifice. This amazing exchange gave God legal recourse to satisfy perfect Justice and in the process both fulfill the covenant AND restore creation to its original intent. It gave God legal rights to come, atone for the transgression done and reconcile His creation back to Himself. All this was done through the sacrifice of Jesus and thus permanently atoning for the sins of creation forever.
Do you see now how the Cross of Jesus then satisfied the legal obligation that God had to fulfill? For God will be a debtor to NO man.
You see humanity was never designed to die, decay, nor walk in defeat. God created man and woman and gave them dominion over His creation. And in HIS image (eternally living) He made them. However, He did not create mindless soulless robotic puppets. For what is Love without the possibility and freedom of choice? The forced, coerced and mandated demand to do any action is NOT freedom, it is slavery. Therefore, despite God knowing the outcome and the great cost, He yet chooses to give His creation free will.
Freedom can not flourish outside the confines of His Love. This is why He chose to give His creation the ability and freewill to choose Him or reject Him. It is this “insanity” of His Love that despite the knowledge of being rejected in the future, He yet chooses to Love. It is this crazy love that despite knowing the legal costs, He still created us with free will and the ability to freely accept Him or reject Him. How many of us would knowingly love someone, pursue someone, go bankrupt in the pursuit for someone? And all this done, just to set up the scenario to give someone the opportunity to either walk alongside with or reject the offer to do life together with?
You see perfect love DEMANDS perfect Justice. It can not walk alongside someone not walking in freewill, love and obedience. God is Love and God is also Just. His Justice DEMANDS that transgressions be paid in full. His Love demands that justice be completely fulfilled. Having given legal control and dominion of creation to man, it then produced a legal demand that the transgression be paid in full. Without the penalty of the transgression being enforced, the entirety of the law would be then made void and God would be found a liar. Therefore to restore things to their original intent, the transgression had to be paid. Anything less would make God no longer Just and no longer Love. To fulfill this legal demand, God needed a descendant of Adam and Eve to enter into a legal covenant with Him. Abraham's obedience allowed God to step in and fulfill the legal demand that HAD to be paid for the transgressions done. However, Abraham did not sacrifice his son, instead there was a ram in the thicket...Yet, watch how God reacts.
"Because you have obeyed me and have not withheld even your son, your only son, I swear by my own name that I will certainly bless you. I will multiply your descendants beyond number, like the stars in the sky and the sand on the seashore. Your descendants will conquer the cities of their enemies. And through your descendants all the nations of the earth will be blessed—all because you have obeyed me.”
Did you catch it?
No?

“I SWEAR BY MY OWN NAME”
Abraham's obedience, of not withholding EVEN his only son, gave God the legal recourse to then come in and both pay the debts incurred due to the transgressions of man AND to reciprocate the actions of the covenant partner. It is because of this, that the legality of the cross then fully comes into The Courtroom of Heaven. Those that choose to accept the freely given opportunity to become a named participant to the “class action” lawsuit demanding that the debts be paid in full are therefore named codefendants. The courts of Heaven do fully agree that all the transgression must be paid. Since God will be a debtor to NO man, He presents the full payment, Jesus, to the courts. Having found no sin in Him, Jesus is found NOT Guilty and all those that are named co-defendants also found not guilty.
